Bonnie McKeegan
Author / Consultant / End-of-Life Doula / Social Worker / Speaker
Life is complex. Bonnie finds joy, meaning, and purpose in a variety of activities. Here’s a bit about her.
About
Bonnie McKeegan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW23344), author, blogger, trained End-of-Life Doula, consultant, and retired psychotherapist in Grass Valley, California. Her professional experiences began in substance abuse treatment in the ’90s when she sought to help addicts and families seeking recovery.
In 1998, after earning her Master’s in Social Work degree with a concentration in health, she transitioned to county mental health.
In 2001, Bonnie sought out her professional dream: a social work job in healthcare. She went to work for Sutter Health which remained her professional home until 2013.
In 2013, Bonnie was ready for the next profound experience. She spent a few months working for hospice, then, her mother was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. It was time for a break from work.
She spent a year concentrating on family and evaluating career options.
The call to continue her career in social work was irresistible. She began her private psychotherapy practice in late 2014. After eight amazing years, the difficult decision to close her practice in 2022 grew out of life’s ever-changing weather.
Witnessing death and dying-related processes, rituals, and events, both professionally and personally, changed Bonnie’s life in sad ways. However, life and death experiences continue to inspire joy and creativity.
Bonnie enjoys all sorts of creativity.
Crocheting, photography, sewing (mom, look at me quilting up your stash!), gardening, drawing, painting, and creative writing. If it’s a creative pursuit, she’s interested.
Quiet nature walks and lake days bring her in tune with life in ways that talking cannot accomplish.
Taking care of her departed mother’s flower gardens is a personal quest to keep weedy invaders and relentless hungry critters from taking over.
Bonnie’s most joyful and meaningful experiences continue to be watching her twin sons become inspiring young men.
